USS Essex CVA 9 Aircraft Carrier at Halifax 1960

Uss Essex name ship of a class of twenty-four 30,000/40,000 ton aircraft carriers built during WW2. Essex and several others of her class were fitted with 'Hurricane Bows' in the late 50's early 60's .Other modifications were strengthened and angled flight decks to accommodate heavier jet aircraft. Compare with Lake Champlain this file.

I was aboard this carrier as an air controllman. I observed our undignified accident, when we left port, ripping out the brick wall of the hospital. Do you have any pictures of that? We loved Halifax, the people treated us royally!

I remember tht John, that was part of the Immigration Building on Pier 21. I had forgotten about that but I think I may still have a news clipping from then. Best wishes, Ken
