HMS Centaur alongside HM Dockyard, HongKong following SEATO exercises with Commonwealth Navies during Spring of 1964. Note anti-sub aircraft on foreward flightdeck and requsite sampan off Stbd bow.

My Brother in Law was LT. on HMS Centaur during this period. I had the pleasure of visiting this carrier at Greenock a few year later. He retired after the Falklands war. I have photos from this visit.

Gannet looks like an AEW3, used for Airborne Early Warning ( AN- APS 20 radar) rather than for anti-submarine purposes !

I remember it well I was a firesuitman on the flight deck with a great crew tom tickner was my best buddy happy days !!! I've got a lot of photos of the Centaur when we were involved in the rescue of SS Lakonia a stricken liner and lots more

If I remember correctly, Centaur visited Liverpool and as she was approaching the Princes Landing Stage, there was a sailor kneeling in the opening in the bows holding a replica European Cup, so it must have been during one of the years that Liverpool F.C. had had success in Europe.

What a great year '64 was. Still laughing about having to avoid the Master at Arms for returning late after wonderful four weeks leave in Hongkong. Have lost pics from the era. Would love to see some posted.

Best Ship in the Royal Navy at the time and the happiest only thing wrong it had no air conditioning system to speak of..prickly heat was rife...........Happy Days
