SP-350 Denise on the Calypso
The SP-350 Denise, famous as the "Diving saucer" (Soucoupe plongeante), is a small submarine designed to hold two people, and is capable of exploring depths of up to 400 metres. It was invented by Jacques-Yves Cousteau and engineer Jean Mollard at the French Centre for Undersea Research.
Editor: okay, so this is not a ship, but as it is part of Cousteau equipment on board of the RV Calypso, I couldn't leave it out of course. Like many others I grew up with the amazing footage of the Calypso and its adventures.... would love to see more photos of her!
