This is the 228, 000 tonne concrete base for Shell's Dunlin oil platform - once completed it was ballasted down in a Norwegian fjord to allow the steel topsides to be floated over the top. The ballast was then pumped out so that the entire structure could be towed out into the North Sea to be sunk in position. Some of the tanks would have been filled with grout to weigh the platform down, but the legs and the rest of the tanks can store 838, 000 barrels of oil.

If I remember well the "Andoc" was build in Europoort Rotterdam.

I’m afraid that the picture doesn’t show Andoc. The Andoc (Dunlin A) GBS consists of 9x9 cells.

Our company (Flexion bv. - Roermond) was responseable for the hydraulic equipment needed to handle the sliding-moulds during the construction of the concrete tanks.
This job was completed in the mid 70' at the Maasvlakte near Rotterdam.

I worked building the original Andoc outide Rotterdam 1975-76. Bad conditions - quite a few guys killed. I think the upper structure was made in Norway. This an't her.

Woops - I could be wrong. They shipped the concrete base to Norway and the shot looks like is was taken in similar parts. No idea of the number of cells, but be certain there was no grout pumped into her to suberge her. They employed hundreds of us in Rotterdam to clean every last spoonfull of grout from those cells before they'd completed the towers.

This is definitely not the ANDOC Dunlin platform - that was 9 cells square with towers tapering all the way from bottom to top except the last 5-10 meters.
I should know, I worked on the design and construction of it from 1974 to 1977.
There were NO guys killed on site, but one at the Hollandia yard when steel work was being lifted.

Do you know why they constructed a second dry dock at the construction site? Dunlin B? It was never used.

I remember working on the Andoc project at Rotterdam in de mid 70's. In those days I was in charge of Techmation, a company that delivered off shore survey products and services. For Andoc we delivered and installed special strain gauges for measurement of structure movements during transport to Norway. Descending yourself from the top into the structure was a quite an experience. For those days the Andoc was an impressive piece of design.

Indeed this platform does not even look like ANDOC.
I worked there as a student during execution. The structure was 9x9 cells as mentioned above. The towers did not look like this picture at all.

Dit is inderdaad niet het Andoc betonnen boorplatform ik heb voorman-timmerman meegebouwd aan dit eiland. Er zijn tijdens de bouw 2 elektriciens gedood tijden werkzaamheden. Ik zou graag weten is dit eiland nog in werking en waar

Andoc (als aannemerscombinatie-naam) werkt nog als Dunlin A op het Dunlin veld. Ik meen dat er nog iets aan de accoomodatie veranderd is.

Andoc is gebouwd op de Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. mijn, reeds lang overleden zwager was als uitvoerder bij de HBG bij de bouw zeer betrokken. Het probleem was met name de glijbekisting van de poten. karwei is succesvol afgerond en m.b.v. vele sleepboten vertrokken
