Please try to get your facts correct. Shell had all aft-tankers in 1959!! That's only 45 years before this tanker was built!

Hello Alan, I get my information from the web, a notoriously unreliable source, and am grateful for your corrections.

A couple of comments, the original SS Arianta WAS one of the two first all aft Shell tankers built in 1959, the other was the Aluco. They were Steam Ships, steam turbine powered, hence the SS designation. The Arianta in the picture is the MV Arianta. I sailed on the 1959 SS Arianta three times.

I was a fireman on the original SS Arianta in the seventies for 6 months just before Shell got rid of 10 tankers due to lack of orders. I had a great time aboard. I have a picture of her that I took of the coast of sardinia it looks similar but noy the same.

I sailed on the SS Arianta as an extra third engineer from July until november 1973. She hit a reef while mooring in the Azores then dry-docked in Hamburg.
