The Tribal Class frigates, of which 7 were built, displaced 2, 300 tons standard, or 2, 700 tons fully laden. Nubian was built by HM Dockyard, Portsmouth in 1962, and ended her days as a target, being sunk in 1987.
Dimensions were 360 ft (109.7 m) x 42 ft 3 in (12.8 m) x 13 ft 3 in (4.0 m).
Powered by COSAG (COmbined Steam turbine And Gas), the first class of Royal Navy warship to have this propulsion, to a single propeller with a top speed of 25 knots. Complement: 253. 2 x 4.5 in and 2 x 40 mm guns, 1 x Limbo. Plus, of course a Wasp helicopter.

I joined the Nubian 2 days before her first commissioning in Oct 1962 and served aboard until her return from the middle East in 1964. During that time we conducted many first of class trials including taking the wasp helo on board, rough weather trials on the stabilisers in the Indian Ocean and testing the air conditioning in summer in the gulf. Having spent Christmas 63 in Bombay at anchor and New Year in Cochin anchored in the river I am an expert in how to enjoy the festive season abroad!!
