Älvsnabben 4
One of the ferry boats that ply the Göta Älve in Gothenburg, photographed just before I went aboard on 7 February 2008. In the background is the Gothenburg suspension bridge, and the smudge above the bridge tower is an arriving Ryanair Boeing 737-800 on its way in to Säve airport (clearly recognisable on my original picture).
Älvsnabben 4 was built by Båtservice Holding in Mandal, Norway, and delivered in 1994. She is of aluminium and partially strengthened for operation in ice. She has 158 seats in the saloon, and a further 80 seats on the sun deck. The maximum passenger capacity is 448. Length 31.55 m, beam 8.15 m. Two Penta TAMD122 engines totalling 760 hp driving fixed propellers. Service speed 12.5 knots, but limited in the Göta Älv to 11 knots.
Picture Added on 07 February 2008.
