P&O;'s much loved ferry the 1965/4,468gt.St CLAIR, seen here berthed at Lerwick in the Shetlands in July 1989. She plied the regular service between Aberdeen/Orkney/Shetland and was much missed when finally retired.

Much loved/missed? Yes, 3 times a week lifeline service but please don't attribute any romance to the St Clair. Old, tired, clunky, grim food, grim bars, British service standards. Need I go on? Give me the new, sleek, clean, with modern facilities and daily MV Hjaltland and MV Hrossey any time. Maybe P&O; upped their game after the mid 80s, but in my experience (1980-86) she did a job, but not a lot else.
