Isle of Lewis At Uig, Skye

CalMac's Stornoway ferry berthed bow-in at Uig on 3 April 2015. She was brought to operate a special 1700 sailing from Uig to Lochmaddy to assist the Islay ferry Finlaggan - relieving the Uig triangle route for the Hebrides, herself on relief duties for other fleet members - which was overbooked.

On 27 July 1995, whilst on her way to Ullapool and Stornoway on her delivery voyage from her builders prior to replacing the Suilven on the Stornoway route, the Isle of Lewis called at Uig, Lochmaddy & Tarbert (Harris) for successful berthing trials at each port to assess her suitability should an emergency ever arise. Although she can actually berth at each pier and land a ramp, her 4.2m draught means that she requires high tides or major dredging work to serve regularly on the triangle.

The Isle of Lewis's historic first passenger on a CalMac route other than between Stornoway and Ullapool in April 2015 brought back memories of the Suilven providing a special sailing from Lochmaddy to Uig in late-March 1988, after the regular vessel at the time - the Hebridean Isles - suffered a breakdown.
