This vessel built as survey craft for Hydrographic Service of Port of London Authority and named "Chartwell". She replaced earlier vessel "Maplin". High speed gave ability to reach survey ground in Thames estuary from base at Gravesend. Optional low speed for survey operations from single water-jet propulsion.

A survey vessel "Smit Yare", design closely resembling the "Smit Cairnryan" though somewhat abreviated at the stern, with less accomodation and a clear afterdeck, was seen on passage through Ramsay Sound, Pembrokeshire, West Wales.I am wondering if this is a sister vessel or perhaps the result of a rebuild?
