I sailed on the Empire Kittiwake from Singapore to Hong Kong and back in 1961 as a security escort for some cipher equipment being delivered to Hong Kong. L/Cpl A M Whitby, Royal Signals.

I sailed on the Empire Kittiwake in 1960 when we were involved in the rescue of Japanese surveyors in a hurricane in the South China Sea. I believe a photograph was taken of the ship during the rescue that appeared in the Hong Kong Times showing the hull out of the water. I was accompanied by Sapper Spranger and Sapper Morten from Hull

If anyone has a copy of this photo please post on this site.

Added by Lance Corporal J.J. Wright on 29 September 2015.
Further to my previous comment about the rescue, the photo was taken by Corporal Samprsys

The ship was under the command of the Royal Navy at the time.
