British cargo ship 'Chantala' of 1950 (1)
British India S.N. Co's "Chantala" (7,551 tons gross, built 1950 by Barclay, Curle & Co Ltd., Whiteinch) at anchor off Jeddah on Christmas Day 1964. She was one of two B.I. "C"-class ships also used as a cadet-training ship (the other being "Chindwara", see picture #21775
), with accommodation at various times for 31, 52 and 15 cadets. In 1971 she was sold to Pacific International Lines, Singapore, & renamed "Kota
Sentosa". In 1974 she was sold for scrapping at Tientsin (now Tianjin), China.
