Coastal cargo ship 'Gamboma' of 1938

Coastal cargo ship "Gamboma" (2,593 tons gross, built 1938 by Smith's Dock Co., Middlesbrough & owned by Cia. Nav. Thompson S.A. of Panama) at Penang, Malaysia, in May 1971. She was built for the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co., which in 1955 became Shell Petroleum Co.; from 1963 she passed through several owners & name changes before being broken up in 1978. From her shape it would seem that she was originally an oil tanker. A much better photo & detailed history of name changes can be found at: http://www.teesbuiltships.co.uk/smiths/19301944/cerion1938.htm
