The hosting costs of websites on this system have historically been covered by advertising. However changes in the way people use the internet, including ad-blocking mean that the revenues no longer cover the expenses. For this reason we will be closing this website within the next two months unless we can find a different model. If any users of the site would be interested in the possibility of taking this incredible archive or pictures and comments over including paying for hosting, please get in touch.

No: 19161   Contributor: Paul Strathdee   Year: 1976   Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan   Country: United Kingdom

Refer also to picture #15127; this is VENPET (photo courtesy of the late Donald Robertson) on the Clyde in July 1976 undertaking a lightening whilst under way.
VENPET was built by Mitsubishi at Nagasaki in 1973 and as stated was involved in a collision with sister VENOIL off the South African coast in fog in 1977.VENPET was sold on in 1980 becoming ALEXANDER THE GREAT and was scrapped at Kaohsiung in October 1984 as a result I believe of becoming a victim of one of the Middle Eastern conflicts.
