Wow! Great picture! My grandfather was captain for many years at sand supplies western so there is every possibility that he was in charge of this ship at the time of this picture. I have fond memories aboard and also aboard the sand diamond! Captain G H Thompson- missed dearly.

Jay your Grandfather was skipper of the Diamond when this was taken, I sailed with him on the Sapphire and Diamond. I stayed on the Sapphire until she was sold.

Hi Martin, if you can recall his often sea-sick grandson aboard from time to time, ashamed to say it was me!
I can remember John Stax, Rommel, the cook and uncle David, obviously, but cant really remember any other crew members! what was your role aboard?

Hi Jay I was deck hand on there, on the Sapphire when I joined in 79 was Your Grandad, Brian Baker, your uncle Dave, George Baker Jim Bullen, Cockney George plus 2 others who I cannot remember. On the Diamond were George, Rommel, Dave Whittle, George Baker, Ray colliver, John Stack, Rommel's son
