At one time these United States Lines' Standard Ships were regular sights at ports round the UK.
Surviving to see the dawn of the container age, AMERICAN PILOT was photographed in Glasgow in August 1967. She was built in 1945 as ONWARD at the North Carolina yard at Wilmington becoming PIONEER GULF in 1948 and in 1958, AMERICAN PILOT.
She was broken up at Kaohsiung in April 1972.
