Post Office cable ship at Erskine Bridge in 1974 outbound from the PO Wharf at Dalmuir. She was built as ALERT by the Fairfield yard at Govan in 1961.
In 1995 renamed AL (!!) for the voyage she arrived at Alang and was beached in October 1995 for breaking up.

The Alert was too big to berth at the Post Office cable depot at Dalmuir, she used to lie in Rothsay Dock. The blue/white exhaust is due to her diesels running for too long with no load on them. This allows lub oil from the turbo chargers to get into the exhaust manifolds
