Ships and Harbours
No: 15387   Contributor: Paul Strathdee   Year: 1986   Manufacturer: Oy Wärtsilä Ab, Åbo, Finland   Country: Finland

Surely the most famous and latterly the Grand Dame of Baltic ferries.
She was completed by the Wartsila Yard in Helsinki in 1977 for Finnlines service from Travemunde to Helsinki and was powered by Pratt and Whitney gas turbines giving her a top recorded speed of 33 knots which she used to apply on summer season sailings. I have had the pleasure of seeing her at that speed albeit from a distance and it was quite a sight!
This was taken at Helsinki in September 1986.
