VENOIL - VLCC Crude oil tankerThis photo was taken outside the coast of South-Africa in 1978
VENOIL, was a steam tanker of 330,954 dwt, built in 1973 by Hyundai, Nagasaki. Early on the morning of 13.12.1977 on her way from Kharg Island with 307,000 tons of crude oil to Nova Scotia, she collided with her sister ship, VENPET 20 mil off Cape St.Francis, near Port Elizabeth.
She cames the other way in ballast. Both ships began to burn and it was VENOIL who received the greatest damage.
24.12.1977, she was towed into Cape Town and the oil was loaded over to the tanker LITIOPA. VENOIL was subsequently towed to Sasebo in January 1978 for repairs. In 1984, she was broken up.
