Yes indeed, the Empresses and the Cunard Saxonia quartet were regulars off greenock on that run.

In the days before the Ocean Terminal when the local steamers were utilised as liberty boats to land the passengers. This still happens on the Forth in summer months where passengers come ashore at South Queensferry by local trip boats

Even this is to become a thing of the past. I believe a vast investment is being made at Leith to build a deep water cruise ship terminal out in the Firth near the locks.It's a Watch This Space scenario.

Some of the smaller cruise ships that can get under the Forth Bridge go into Rosyth (a la , the il-fated Zebrugge Ferry)
