HMS Loch Killisport, 1958.

I took this photo in 1958, probably in Hong Kong, but could have been Singapore or even on the Japanese coast. I was then sailing as Junior Engineer Officer with BISN on SS "Umaria", trading between Persian Gulf and Japan.

Greetings George, nice to think that you may be one of the figures on deck or under the after awning. There seems to be some kind of activity around the stern of the ship at sea level,a lick of paint perhaps? Can anyone comment on what was going on?

Added by Jim Devine on 23 January 2010.
hello again jim, activity could have been payday could also have been a marine looking for directions to his messdeck, but most likely the ship was lost and was awaiting help

My guess that it was more likley to be in the Middle East, East Afica, Pakistan or India.Loch Killisport was part of the Persian Gulf Squadron in them days. I was on her in Singers HK in the 60's when she was Capt F 3rd. Frigate squadron. It is doubtful she would wander that far East. Note the dhow badge on the funnel.

Hi Nutty. I was onboard in the early 60s in the far east when she was Captain F. I was an a/b at the time.

Hi George, Paul, Bob and Nutty, Can't believe its over a year since I posted my last message! I got close to the senior service again in 1965/6 when I was promoted to 2nd Engineer Officer on LST Empire Gull and then Grebe, based in Malta and making the occasional run to the Gulf and Aden. Hope you are all well, you obviously had a happy ship in Killisport, hope you all made happy landings when you came ashore for the last time! Kindest regards, Jim.

G'Day, I( was a member of the Royal Marine detachment on Loch Killisport from October 1957 until May 1959. If that picture was taken in 1958 it was definitely in the Persian Gulf. My memories of the ship are not good.

I remember the Royal Marines being drafted to the killisport to replace the seaman they were not happy about it as we just finished our working up trials it was a very happy ship even after that.
