Aerial photo of Seaway Prince launching

This is one of the many photos I took while flying over the Whyalla shipyard during the launching of the Seaway Prince in 1975. As I had mentioned it in a previous post and someone else had also mentioned the ship I thought people might like to see one of the photos I took. Other photos show the ship on the slipway alongside the partly constructed Seaway Princess. On the right hand side of the photo is where the late outfitting was done.

Hi, good photo. I am trying to find some photos and history of this vessel as I just brought a baromter online with her name engraved on it. I believe she was Union steamship company and scrapped in the 80's?. Any info much appreciated.

Steve,
My Brother, Captain William Benston was Captain on all of the Seaway fleet. He went to sea in 1947 aged 15yo with BHP in Newcastle, then to the Union Steam Ship Co. NZ which later became TNT and Union Bulk Ships. I have a list of all the ships he was on if you are interested.
I am currently looking at a DVD movie which I have just made with all the photos of the ships he was on, round the Aust. NZ Coast, Fiji, Samoa, Canada, Tasmania. Bill ended his final watch on 5th July 1977, aged 46, due to a heart attack
If you type in Seaway Princess on google, there is a website from the archives which gives some information on the Seaway Prince & Princess.
Look forward to hearing from you.

I was an cadet engineer on this ship over summer about 1978 to 1979. I remember chief engineer was Mr. Phillips. The two ships Prince and Princess did roundabout trips Melbourne to Hobart. I have slide photos of the ship and travels including when we went into drydock in Melbourne at A J Wagglen floating dock.
